CBS Bush Memos Fakes? Nahh!
Bush's sketchy record in the National Guard is no secret. New reports from the Boston Globe have revisited the issues in question:
Now, memos uncovered and publicized by CBS' 60 Minutes show details concerning Bush's failure to fulfill requirements. Special treatment is again noted towards Bush, to the point where one of his superiors protests: "I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job." The memos were immediately called into question as to their authenticity. This seems only natural, considering the nature of content. The claim is that the memos use proportional spacing not used on most typing equipment from the time period. Especially noted is the "th" printed together instead of spaced evenly as on an IBM pre-Selectric typewriter from that time:

See a further explanation of this problem here.
It would not have been impossible for someone to plant fake documents. However, would such an act be necessary or probable in this case? The new memos pretty much tell us what has been already discovered through other sources regarding Bush's poor efforts in the National Guard. Is there something new here that would require a forgery? I don't see it.

The reexamination of Bush's records by the Globe, along with interviews with military specialists who have reviewed regulations from that era, show that Bush's attendance at required training drills was so irregular that his superiors could have disciplined him or ordered him to active duty in 1972, 1973, or 1974. But they did neither. In fact, Bush's unit certified in late 1973 that his service had been 'satisfactory" -- just four months after Bush's commanding officer wrote that Bush had not been seen at his unit for the previous 12 months.

AS written by John Fogerty(CCR)35 years ago
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no SENETOR's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Yeah!
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
Ooh, they only answer More! more! more! yoh
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no military son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, one
This could be talking about our current president in my opinion. By the way Fogerty has a new album coming out later in september called "Deja Vu All Over Again". Check out the lyrics to the title track and see if Mr Fogerty has been paying attention.
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you try to read the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
Day by day I hear the voices rising
Started with a whisper like it did before
Day by day we count the dead and dying
Ship the bodies home while the networks all keep score
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Could your eyes believe the writing on the wall
Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
One by one I see the old ghosts rising
Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy
Where the light gets dim
Day after day another Momma's crying
She's lost her precious child
To a war that has no end
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio
Did you stop to read the writing at The Wall
Did that voice inside you say
I've seen this all before
It's like Deja Vu all over again
It's like Deja Vu all over again
